1. Why do we recommend taking the 49 herbs & spices from ANCENASAN®?

Herbs and spices are those foods that still contain a high or highest proportion of bitter substances in plant foods. Unfortunately, these valuable bitter substances are hardly found in our current diet. The reasons are modern plant breeding, the heavy use of pesticides and our innate preference for sweet, salty and fatty foods. By taking the 49 herbs and spices from ANCENASAN®, this intake of valuable bitter substances can be increased wonderfully naturally and easily integrated into everyday life.

In addition, bitter herbs and spices contain numerous other so-called secondary plant ingredients, which, in addition to nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, proteins and healthy fats, make up the health value of plant-based foods. The secondary plant ingredients that are particularly abundant in our 49 herbs and spices include the group of polyphenols and terpenes. They give the herbal recipe its aroma and a bitter to slightly astringent taste.

2. What distinguishes the 49 herbs from ANCENASAN® from other herbal or bitter products?

The special thing about this product is its unique recipe and the large number and variety of herbs it contains. The recipe was developed 27 years ago (1997) by the founder Ann Beyer and put together so that the individual herbs complement each other wonderfully through synergism. “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

The recipe contains 49 different herbs, spices, fruits and seeds, the majority of which are so-called bitter herbs. The latter come from a total of 6 different bitter substance classes and therefore the product's diversity surpasses other bitter substance products on the market. The herbal mixture also has a pleasantly aromatic and bitter taste, i.e. not too bitter. It has enjoyed great popularity for over 2 decades, as evidenced by our numerous positive customer reviews.

The products are all bottled exclusively in high-quality violet jars, which protects the ingredients in a special way from the harmful rays of visible light and thus preserves the herbs in a natural way.

The 49 herbs are available in 4 preparation forms:

  1.  As a fine tea powder (ANCENASAN® herbal)
  2. As capsules (ANCENASAN® capsules), which, in addition to the 49 herbs, also contain 60 mg of choline per capsule
  3. As a bitter herb concentrate/drops without alcohol (ANCENASAN® 49 Ultra)
  4. As a bitter herb concentrate/drops with alcohol (ANCENASAN® 49)

The capsules and drops are particularly practical for on the go.
The powder and capsules are also available as a practical mini version for your travel bag or handbag.

3. What health benefits do the 49 bitter herbs & spices from ANCENASAN® offer?

Due to the European Health Claims Regulation, we as manufacturers are prohibited from making any effect claims, i.e. health or disease-related statements about herbs and their ingredients. An exception to the declaration is the ingredient choline, which is an essential component of our ANCENASAN® capsules. There are permissible health claims for choline that can be used in advertising, such as:

  • Choline contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism
  • Choline contributes to normal fat metabolism
  • Choline contributes to maintaining normal liver function

Choline is a vitamin-like substance and an essential nutrient that the human body needs to survive but cannot produce in sufficient quantities. It becomes a critical nutrient, especially in vegetarian/vegan diets, and plays an important role in healthy liver function, fat metabolism (vascular health) and the nervous system.
Choline is a natural component of lecithin (= phosphatidylcholine) and an intake of a total of 400-500 mg of choline per day is now recommended by various international nutritional societies. 2 capsules (= daily dose) of our liver complex 49 provide a total of 120 mg choline.

4. How are the bitter herb products made and what ingredients do they contain?

All 4 versions of our recipe of 49 herbs & spices (powder, capsules, concentrate/drops) are made in Germany, i.e. the herbs are mixed or extracted in Germany and the products are then filled by hand (powder, drops) and mechanically (capsules). The products naturally contain numerous bitter plant substances, especially numerous polyphenols.

  • The ANCENASAN® herbal powder consists of 100% 49 extremely finely ground herbs.
  • The liquid bitter herb concentrate (ANCENASAN® 49 Ultra) consists of an alcohol-free extract of our 49 herbs and spices, which is produced using honey, apple cider vinegar and a special ultrasound process. He is alcohol-free.
  • The liquid bitter herb concentrate (ANCENASAN® 49) consists of an alcoholic extract of our 49 herbs and spices. The extract contains only purified water, alcohol and the 49 herbs.
  • The ANCENASAN® capsules contain our finely ground 49 herbs and an additional 60 mg of choline per capsule. Choline is a vitamin-like substance and supports healthy liver function and fat metabolism. The capsule shell is purely plant-based and consists of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose.

5. What distinguishes drops with alcohol from drops without alcohol?

When producing the drops without alcohol, we use honey and apple cider vinegar as natural extraction agents, whereby a special ultrasound process is also used to remove polar (water-soluble) as well as semi-polar (water- and fat-soluble) herbal ingredients.

This does not happen with drops containing alcohol, as alcohol naturally extracts both polar (water-soluble) and non-polar (fat-soluble) substances. For this reason, the two drop variants differ slightly in their spectrum of secondary plant ingredients. The drops with alcohol also have a more bitter taste, while the drops without alcohol taste mildly bitter and sweet and sour. The latter are particularly suitable for those who are sensitive to taste, children and beginners to bitter substances.

6. Where do the 49 herbs and spices come from and are they organically grown?

The herbs come from Europe, South America and various parts of Asia. They come from different regions in which the herbs occur naturally and sometimes also from wild collection in unpolluted areas. At the moment, not all herbs are available in organic quality in the required quantities, so organic certification is not possible for us.

To guarantee the high quality of our 49 herbs, we have an independent laboratory carry out extensive analyzes of each batch for heavy metals, pesticides and microbiological contamination. You can request the results from us at any time by email (info@ancenasan.de or for Spain correo@ancenasan.es).

7. How should I use, dose or take the bitter herb products?

To ensure a good supply of valuable bitter substances, we recommend taking it regularly. The tea powder and capsules are usually taken once a day and the bitter herb concentrates/drops twice a day. The products can be used in phases (e.g. 2 weeks) but also in a slightly larger amount (e.g. the powder twice a day, the capsules twice a day and the drops 3 times a day).

Tea powder preparation:
1/2 tsp ANCENASAN® herbal powder (approx. 0.6 g) is stirred into approx. 100 ml of warm/hot water (> 75 degrees) and drunk before or after a meal.

Capsules:
2 capsules of ANCENASAN® are taken once daily before or after a meal with sufficient water.

Bitter herb concentrate/drops:
We recommend ½ teaspoon of the concentrates (ANCENASAN® 49 or ANCENASAN® 49 Ultra) twice a day (equivalent to approx. 2 ml or 25 drops) to be enjoyed pure before or after a meal or stirred into a little water or tea.

8. Can I take the 49 herbs with other supplements or medications?

Nothing speaks against taking other dietary supplements at the same time. When it comes to probiotics, however, it is recommended that you take them a little later than the herbs (approx. 2 hours before or after).

If you need to take medication regularly, you should always consult your doctor. An influence of bitter substances and other secondary plant ingredients on the enzymatic breakdown or activation of medications in the liver cannot be ruled out. This can change the effectiveness of a medication.

9. How long do the products last and how should they best be stored?

All products should be stored well closed and protected from heat and direct sunlight. The products have a shelf life of at least 2 years.

Since the products are filled in high-quality violet glasses, which have the unique properties of a filter for the harmful rays of visible light, an even longer shelf life can be expected if stored properly. The high-quality herbs are naturally preserved in the jars.
It is best to reuse empty jars and use them to store kitchen spices, teas or oils.

10. Do we offer a money-back guarantee or a return option if the product does not meet your expectations?

Yes. If you as a customer have something to complain about or are not satisfied with, we will refund your order.

11. Are there any special discounts or offers for repeat customers or bulk purchases?

Customers who have received a referral voucher code from their therapist or health expert permanently receive a 10% discount on all of our ANCENASAN® products.

12. Why does the bitter herb concentrate ANCENASAN® 49 contain alcohol?

For the drop variants with alcohol, we chose 35% alcohol as the extractant. The reason: Alcohol can dissolve both water-soluble and fat-soluble secondary plant ingredients/bitter and aromatic substances from the plant material. The alcohol-free drops, on the other hand, contain primarily water-soluble and some half-water, half-fat-soluble plant substances. The alcohol makes the drops a little more bitter and lasts longer.

However, the alcohol content of a daily serving of the drops is very low. With a portion of 25 drops you absorb just 0.25 g of alcohol and with 2 x 25 drops you absorb 0.5 g of alcohol*. This amount of alcohol of 0.5 g corresponds approximately to:

  • 160 g ripe banana (1 ½ piece peeled) with approx. 0.4% alcohol by volume or
  • 250 ml grape juice, which may contain 0.4% vol. natural alcohol or
  • 100 g dried figs (approx. 7 pieces) with approx. 0.6% vol. alcohol or
  • 120 ml malt beer containing 0.5% alcohol by volume

However, if you don't want to consume alcohol at all, we recommend the alcohol-free bitter herb concentrate ANCENASAN® 49 Ultra, the powder ANCENASAN® herbal or our ANCENASAN® capsules.

12. For how long are the different packaging sizes sufficient?

ANCENASAN® herbal (powder)
20 g is enough for approx. 30 servings (1 month)
40 g is enough for approx. 60 servings (2 months)
120 g is enough for approx. 180 servings (6 months)
5g mini glass jar enough for approx. 8 servings
5 g sample sachet is enough for approx. 8 servings

ANCENASAN® capsules

180 capsules are enough for 90 servings (3 months at 2 capsules/day)
Sample in a glass jar: 8 capsules are enough for 4 days (at 2 capsules/day)

ANCENASAN® Bitter Herb Liquid Concentrates (ANCENASAN® 49 and ANCENASAN® 49Ultra)

100 ml is enough for approx. 50 servings (2 ml each)

13. Can children, pregnant women and breastfeeding women take ANCENASAN® bitter herb products?

Children and breastfeeding mothers can also take the herb and spice mixture in powder and capsule versions. However, we recommend that children take a smaller amount of ¼ teaspoon of powder or 1 capsule per day.
For safety reasons, it is not advisable to consume concentrated herbs and spices during pregnancy.

Pregnant women and children should not use the bitter herb concentrate ANCENASAN® 49 due to the alcohol it contains.

14. Are there any known side effects or contraindications that I should be aware of when taking the 49 herbs?

For safety reasons, concentrated herbs should not be taken during pregnancy. We also advise people who suffer from an acute stomach ulcer, inflammation of the stomach or intestinal mucosa or who have recently had their gallbladder removed not to take it.

If you have an intolerance to salicylates or severe histamine intolerance, you should also be careful with herbs and spices. In this case, you should avoid them or only try them in very small quantities.

15. Can allergy sufferers take ANCENASAN® bitter herb products?

We have had very good experiences with allergy sufferers. However, if you have a known allergy to one of the herbs or spices it contains, we advise against consumption for safety reasons. If you are intolerance to salicylates, you should also avoid taking them.

16. Can you take the bitter herbs more diluted (e.g. in 300-400 ml) of water?

The herbs can also be taken more diluted. There are some people who do this and still benefit. In this way, people who find the taste too intense in a small amount of liquid can also benefit from the effects of bitter herbs.

However, the activation of the bitter receptors is likely to be somewhat stronger and faster with a less strong dilution, especially if you keep the herbs in your mouth for a while before swallowing them.

17. What are the main differences between the individual bitter herb products? Should you start with a particular product?

In principle, it is not necessary to introduce or sneak our bitter herb products into your diet in a specific order. However, we have still decided to offer a variety of bitter herb products to choose from because people have different sensitivities, preferences and needs.

There are people who are very sensitive to bitterness because they rarely eat bitter foods, are new to bitters, or have a particularly large number of taste sensory cells (so-called super tasters). These people benefit from the dosage form of the capsules or from the bitter-sweet/sour drops without alcohol. Both are also practical for on the go - as are the drops with alcohol. The alcohol-free drops are also best suited for children and pregnant women.

The drops with alcohol have a significantly more bitter taste compared to those without alcohol and therefore differ slightly in strength. In addition, alcohol dissolves other bitter substances from the plants than honey, vinegar or water do. Therefore, all 3 products (drops with alcohol, drops without alcohol, powder stirred in warm water) contain slightly different spectra of bitter secondary plant ingredients.

For these reasons, you can wonderfully alternate between the individual bitter herb products and combine them. This way you get different focuses of plant substances. Taking bitter substances is never boring and never one-sided. Due to the large variety of herbs they contain, you will not absorb too much of a bitter substance from any of our products - even if you take them daily.

About the capsules: In addition to the 49 herbs, these also contain choline, an important nutrient for fat, liver and nerve metabolism. This makes the capsules different from the other 3 products. The dosage of 2 capsules per intake provides 120 mg of choline per day, although a daily intake of approx. 300-500 mg through the diet is recommended today (found primarily in egg yolks, offal, fatty fish, and in smaller quantities in soybeans, nuts and seeds).

The capsules only dissolve in the stomach, so that the activation of bitter receptors only occurs in the stomach/intestinal tract and not in the mouth, as is the case with drops and powder. So if you want faster activation, the drops (especially with alcohol) and the powder are best. The powder is in any case the most cost-effective option.
