Psyllium is a popular natural remedy for constipation. However, if psyllium husk is used incorrectly or in too large a dose per dose, you can actually worsen the problem. 💩🚽 The most common mistake made is starting with too high a dosage or not mixing the psyllium husks with the required amount of liquid and then consuming them. If this is neglected, the absorption of the body's own fluid in the intestines will result in the psyllium husks forming a viscous gelatinous mass that continues to expand until it has finally bound enough water. 🤭 In the worst case, the psyllium mass expands so much that it stretches the intestinal wall so significantly that vessels and thus the blood supply to the intestinal wall are cut off. The intestinal muscle is paralyzed so that the intestine can no longer contract due to the stretching stimulus. A blockage occurs and further transport stops. ❌🚂 In order to avoid something like this, you should always pay close attention to the consumption recommendations. The best thing to do is to start with 5 g (= 1 slightly heaped teaspoon) of psyllium husks in the morning and increase this amount to a maximum of 2-3 x 5 g per day. 5 g should be mixed into 200 ml each and drunk as soon as the mixture has swelled slightly in the glass. Afterwards you should always drink an ADDITIONAL 2 glasses of water - this is very important!!! It usually takes 3 to 4 days for the stool-promoting effect to begin.🚰 It is best to take it 30-60 minutes before a meal in the morning or lunch and NOT in the evening. You should also not stir psyllium husks into food as they are usually not accompanied by the required amount of liquid.😉💦
