Cowboy beans in homemade barbecue sauce

- 10 dried plums
- 375 ml hot water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2-3 peeled garlic cloves
- 2 tbsp tamari or shoju (soy sauce)
- 2 tbsp whole cane sugar
- 3 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika powder
- 2 glasses of black, white or kidney beans (or home-cooked ones)

- Place the plums in a bowl of hot water and set aside.
- Finely chop the garlic and fry it in a pan with the oil and when it starts to smell, add tamari, sugar and tomato paste.
- Mix everything together and bring to the boil briefly.
- Pour the plums, soaking water, paprika powder and the warm garlic-tomato paste mixture into a blender and puree into a creamy sauce.
- Return the cream to the pan, add the drained beans and bring everything to the boil again so that the beans get nice and warm.

Tastes delicious with millet, rice, jacket potatoes or even on toasted bread with a few chopped spring onions.
