Magic citrus peels: Why they enrich your kitchen! 🔮🍋

through ANCENASAN Admin on July 02, 2025

Did you know that the peels of oranges, lemons and grapefruit are real all-rounders? 😉

Here's a quick summary of why you should rely on the delicious citrus taste more often:

1. Bitters for Digestion: Citrus peels are packed with remarkably potent bitter substances that not only aid digestion, but also provide many other health benefits. (You can find out which ones in the 3-part video series from Dipl.oec.troph. Nadia Beyer on YouTube). These bitter substances in citrus peels include flavonoids, terpenoids and glycosides.

2. Variety of flavors: Your meals get a unique flavor boost from the grated peel! Whether over breakfast porridge, in dessert or over salads and vegetable dishes - grated citrus peels provide a particularly refreshing, aromatic note. 🍰🍚

A little practical tip: Add the freshly grated citrus peels over the dishes. Always make sure that you never use too much and only add the citrus peel at the end of the preparation. If you use too much or leave the peel in the dish for too long, your culinary masterpiece can become bitter and inedible! 😅

By the way: You can also freeze grated lemon peel in advance - it retains its lemony aroma and tastes far superior to dried peel.

Note: Those with histamines or allergies should be careful with all citrus peels as they contain compounds that can promote histamine release. Likewise, people who have to take medication regularly should only consume citrus peels rarely, as many medications are not compatible with certain ingredients in citrus fruits, especially those in grapefruit (see medication package inserts). The secondary plant ingredients in citrus peels influence the activity of certain liver enzymes, which are also responsible for the metabolism of some medications, and can strengthen or weaken the effect. 🚫💊
