WHEN we eat is (almost) as important as WHAT we eat!

Chrononutrition is a sub-area of chronobiology, which in turn is a branch of biology that studies biorhythms, i.e. the circadian rhythms (daily rhythms) inherent in us. 🙌🏼Chrononutrition as a sub-area deals specifically with the area of nutrition, specifically with the interactions between our diet - especially the timing of our meals -, our metabolism and internal rhythms. 〰️Chrononutrition does not only investigate how WHEN we eat (time) affects our health, but also what difference WHAT and HOW MUCH we eat at certain times of the day makes. She also looks at how our internal clock influences our diet and metabolism. ☑️An example from the field of chrononutrition is, for example, research into the effects of shift work and the associated changes in eating and sleeping times on health. Another example is researching different meal patterns on body weight or digestion, i.e. determining what effects it has whether someone eats breakfast or not, for example, or whether someone eats most of their calories in the first half of the day instead of the second. 😋Researching different variants of intermittent fasting is also part of the area of chrononutrition.
