Most people know that fiber is good for the gut 🦠 and can increase our feeling of fullness. But now, researchers have discovered that the daily intake of a combination of fiber and good gut bacteria can even influence our calorie consumption.
A placebo-controlled study with overweight Japanese adults showed that the combination of bifidobacteria (specifically Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis GCL2505) and the soluble fiber inulin significantly increased resting energy expenditure. 📈
Participants taking this combination burned an average of 84.4 kcal/day more at rest than the placebo group – and that was after only 4 weeks! At the same time, the number of beneficial bifidobacteria in their gut increased significantly.
Scientists suspect that this positive effect on metabolism is triggered by a targeted change in the gut microbiota.
There is much to suggest that the right combination of probiotics (bacteria) and prebiotics (soluble fiber) could be a promising strategy to support your metabolism 💪🔥 and better control your weight ⚖️. It is fascinating what an immense influence gut health has on our entire body ✨!
It would now be interesting to know whether the regular consumption of fermented vegetables, such as kimchi 🌶️, which contains both probiotic bacteria and soluble fiber in the form of garlic and spring onions, has similar effects on metabolism. Or whether (soy) yogurt 🥣 sweetened with Jerusalem artichoke syrup 🍯 (rich in inulin) helps with weight loss. What are your experiences so far? Let us know in the comments! 👇
